We’re going to let you in on a little secret the car industry doesn’t want you to know: you don’t have to break the bank to get a sweet car. Let’s look at some stellar sports cars you can drive today for under $40,000.

Chevy Camaro LT1

The Camaro has a reputation for being one of the most modular pony cars on the market. You can get trim levels ranging from affordable to luxury, and there’s seriously a Camaro for everyone. If you’re on a budget and you still want power, you can opt for a Camaro LT1, a $37,895 vehicle that packs a V8 engine and is backed up by 455 horses.

For anyone keeping score at home, that’s about the least amount of money you’ll ever spend on a brand-new V8 engine. What’s not to love about that?

2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata

There’s budget power, then there’s the MX-5 Miata. This excellent little roadster makes up for what it lacks in raw horsepower by being exceptionally light. It boasts an impressive 5.7-second zero to sixty, even though it’s only sitting on 181 horsepower. Backed up by only 151 pound-feet of torque, this might sound like a far cry from a sports car. However, this little scrapper punches way above its weight class.

You can get a brand-new MX-5 for just $27,825, making it one of the most affordable sports cars you’ll find on a dealership lot.

Tesla Model 3

What else is there to say about Tesla’s Model 3? The most affordable entry in Tesla’s stable of electric vehicles, the Model 3 has a lot going for it. “Electric torque” isn’t something you think about until you’re behind the wheel of an all-electric car. Once you feel it, however, you’ll only want to drive cars that have it. Essentially, electric torque means that when you accelerate, you get up to your chosen speed in a hurry, since there’s no combustion engine that needs to spin up to a specific RPM.

This also means that the Model 3 can be speedy in a stealthy way: standing on it in this car is noiseless since it’s all-electric. The speedy, responsive, and fun Model 3 Standard Range might not pack the speed of some of its more expensive cousins, but it comes in just under $40,000. When you factor in how fun and stylish these vehicles are, it’s hard to find a better deal for a more impressive vehicle.
